About the Program
The Sunday School program begins with Pre-K (age 4), and continues through Grade 6. Sunday School meets most weeks during the academic year from 10 a.m. until about 10:40 a.m., at which point the children join their families in church for Holy Communion. Sunday School lessons are interactive, discussion-based explorations of faith with stories, crafts, and imaginative exercises.
Classes
The Pre-K–Grade 3 class uses Godly Play. This Montessori method of teaching uses visual prompts to tell sacred stories, parables, and liturgical action lessons, all to help children become aware of the mystery of God's presence.
The class for Grades 4–6 uses Living the Word, a lectionary-based curriculum in which children study the same biblical lessons as the adults in the main service. Arts and crafts, role-playing, and age-appropriate discussions are all used to enhance the children’s learning experience.
Once a month, the children attend a 10 a.m. family-friendly service, instead of Sunday School. During this Family Eucharist, they serve as lectors, ushers, oblationers, and musicians.
