Sacramental Rites

Baptism

In Holy Baptism, we celebrate God’s loving claim on our lives, calling us to walk the Way of Christ. This Sacrament of entry into the Christian community ordinarily takes place during the 10 a.m. service on stated Holy Days during the Church Year. Adult candidates and parents of children arrange two sessions beforehand with the Rector to discuss the meaning of Baptism in daily life.

Principal Baptismal Feasts:
All Saints' Sunday (First Sunday in November)
The Baptism of Our Lord (January)
Easter (March or April)
Pentecost (May or June)
The Transfiguration (August)

For more information, contact the Parish Office. Please give at least 30 days notice if you wish to arrange a Baptism; a form is available here. For those who are not active members (regularly participating and contributing), an appropriate financial donation to St. Peter's will be recommended.

Holy Communion

All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion at St. Peter's. At the consecration of the original church in 1904 it was announced that "open communion should be encouraged at St. Peter's Church, thus providing the Blessed Sacrament to all those who have been baptized." At this early date the parish's service to the entire community was thus emphasized.  If you are not baptized, you are welcome to come forward during Communion and cross your arms on your chest for a blessing.

Confirmation

Confirmation is the sacrament when youth and adults confirm their baptismal vows and their
commitment to the faith community. Preparation classes are often every year from the fall to the
spring, followed by Confirmation by the Bishop. The Confirmation form may be found here.

Marriage

The Episcopal Church views marriage as a lifelong union that is intended by God to bring joy, comfort, and, when it is God’s will, the opportunity for procreation. At least one person in the couple must be a baptized Christian, and the ceremony must be witnessed by at least two people. The marriage must also comply with state laws and the canons of the church.

Information about the Blessing of Same-Sex Relationships and the Episcopal Church may be found here. LGBTQ+ persons are welcome to be married at St. Peter's and members of our parish community.

The Book of Common Prayer is the form used for the solemnization of a marriage at St. Peter's. You can find suggested readings and hymns in our Planning Guide. For more information, contact the Parish Office.

Funerals

St. Peter's can support and guide you spiritually through the loss of a loved one. We carefully plan funerals and memorial services for any who seek our services, and you can download our Funeral Planning Guide (including liturgy information and all fees) here. The Rector will help make the service meaningful for each family. St. Peter’s also offers interment in The Garth, the memorial garden in our courtyard. For more information, contact the Parish Office.
